As she is known to her fans, Jennifer Lopez talked about changing her last name after marrying Ben Affleck in July, calling it a “traditional” and “romantic” move.
Lopez responded to a New York Times opinion piece indicating that her decision to assume her husband’s name went against feminist ideals in the December cover story for Vogue.
“What? Really? “She inquired. “People will continue to refer to me as Jennifer Lopez. But because we’re married, my legal identity will be Mrs. Affleck,” the “Marry Me” star says “star stated “We’re a husband and wife team. That makes me happy. That, I don’t think, is a problem.”
When asked about the idea of Affleck changing his surname to Lopez, the singer replied: “It’s not the norm. It lacks any romantic elements. It appears to be a power move.”
“I’m in complete charge of my life and destiny, and I feel strong as a woman and as a human. I understand that people have strong feelings about it, and that’s fine “Lopez stated.
She continued, saying: “But if you’re wondering how I feel about it, I just think it’s romantic. It still has a sense of tradition and romance, and perhaps I’m just that kind of girl.”
Lopez first used her new moniker in her wedding announcement newsletter, “On the JLo.” She signed off on the email with “Jennifer Lynn Affleck, Mrs.
“Lopez has already stated that she would take Affleck’s name. She confidently proclaimed in a 2003 Dateline special that she was “going to stay with Jennifer Lopez, but my name would be Jennifer Affleck” when the couple first got engaged in 2002.
In the Dateline interview, she joked about changing her name to J-Aff, which she claimed “doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, but you’ve gotta make sacrifices.”
“She’s a lot more traditional than I expected,” Affleck stated during the joint interview.
Lopez married Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014 and got engaged to Alex Rodriguez in March 2019, before calling it quits in April 2021, after their first engagement ended in 2004. Meanwhile, from 2005 until 2018, Affleck was married to actress Jennifer Garner.

In 2021, Lopez and Affleck restarted their romance. They married in a private Las Vegas chapel wedding in July, followed by a star-studded second wedding at Affleck’s Georgia mansion a month later.
