TikTok Commits to Support Mental Health Awareness in Pakistan

TikTok, a global social media platform, is a trailblazer in promoting mental health awareness and has a particular emphasis on the lively community of Pakistan. On World Mental Health Day and in the future, TikTok applauds the fortitude, bravery, and resilience of its users and reinforces the message that prioritizing mental health is crucial and that we are “Better Together” when we do so.

Communities dedicated to mental health awareness are thriving on TikTok in Pakistan. These communities have been successful in changing stereotypes related to mental health and providing resources to identify people seeking help. TikTok has collaborated with various organizations, including notable sponsor Rear Impact Fund Benefit, which generously donated $250,000. The organization has highlighted the importance of increasing access to mental health services and education for youth worldwide.

According to a recent in-app survey conducted globally, 63% of TikTok users from Pakistan feel a sense of belonging on the platform, which is consistent with the worldwide findings. Moreover, throughout October, TikTok is encouraging its global community to share their stories and join the wellness journey by participating in the #MentalHealthAwareness “Better Together” campaign.

Globally, related hashtags such as #MentalHealth, #SelfCare, #MentalHealthAwareness have garnered billions of views. In Pakistan, hashtags such as #MentalHealth have received over 3 billion views, while #MentalHealthAwareness and #DigitalHifazat have, so far, garnered over 2 billion and 194 million views respectively. At TikTok, we stand for fostering an all-inclusive and supportive community.

Mental health is a subject that is close to our hearts, and we are passionately dedicated to providing a unique platform where users can find the help and resources they need, share their experiences, and access a supportive community. We believe that we are stronger together, and we invite everyone to join us in spreading the message of #MentalHealthAwareness.

TikTok has collaborated with the Digital Rights Foundation and Ola Doc to develop accessible helplines in Pakistan. These helplines provide year-round support to raise awareness about new mental health centers and serve as a resource center for digital wellness. Moreover, TikTok is partnering with various organizations, including creators such as Zindagi Trust, Shifa International, House of Wellness, and others to promote mental health awareness and online safety while combating depression. The platform is also working on developing new methods to negotiate these issues.

Dr. Yasir Masood Afaq, Founder and Clinical Psychologist of House of Wellness, believes that TikTok is playing a crucial role in creating more awareness about mental health issues. With its massive reach, TikTok has the potential to create a supportive mental health environment.

As part of this awareness initiative, the Dastak Women’s Rights and Awareness Foundation has found TikTok to be a fresh and creative channel to educate users about vital mental health concerns and gender-based violence. Through this platform, the foundation aims to eliminate social stigma and build deeper connections.

Hira Amjad, Executive Director of Dastak Women’s Rights and Awareness Foundation, expressed her excitement about TikTok’s potential to promote mental health awareness and foster a supportive community. She also looks forward to developing a sustainable and violence-free partnership with TikTok in Pakistan.

TikTok is committed to promoting mental health and wellbeing for its community both on and off the platform. The company encourages everyone to learn more about #MentalHealthAwareness and work together towards achieving better mental health.
