Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal made a surprising statement regarding his brother Umar Akmal’s T20 World Cup statistics compared to Virat Kohli’s, following Pakistan’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament came after the match between the United States and Ireland in Florida was called off due to rain, resulting in both teams receiving one point each. This outcome allowed the USA to advance to the Super 8 stage.
Speaking on a local media channel, Kamran claimed that Umar Akmal has a superior strike rate and average statistics in T20 World Cups compared to Virat Kohli, based on his recently received statistics.
“I received the statistics yesterday. I am referring to Umar Akmal. In T20 World Cups, Umar has better stats than Virat Kohli,” Kamran stated.

“He [Umar] may not have the same level of performance and reputation as Virat Kohli, but he has a higher strike rate and has achieved the highest score in T20 World Cups.”
Kamran also remarked that if any player from Pakistan’s current T20 World Cup squad had similar stats to Umar’s, it would have likely sparked a social media frenzy through PR agencies.
“Since we do not use PR companies, we do not publicize our stats and performances on social media. Just imagine if these stats belonged to any of these 15 players.
There would have been a huge reaction by now. It wouldn’t be surprising if they would have been compared to Virat Kohli,” Kamran added.
Pakistan faced defeats against the United States and India in their initial two matches of the T20 World Cup, making their path to the Super 8 challenging. They needed victories in their remaining matches against Canada and Ireland and an Ireland win against the USA.
However, due to the rain-affected cancellation of the USA vs Ireland match, Pakistan’s journey in the tournament ended.
