A Chinese telecom infrastructure business called Sunwalk Group intends to invest $2 billion in Pakistan’s telecom industry for the construction of an optical fibre network that would cover 100,000 km2.

The licence for Sunwalk to operate as a telecom infrastructure provider (TIP) in Pakistan has been received. During a meeting with a delegation led by the chairman of Sunwalk Group, Hou Xingwang, on Tuesday, Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin-ul Haque stated that the company will install 100,000 km of fibre cable in Pakistan for a $2 billion investment.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of IT and Telecom, there was a thorough discussion of investment potential and the Pakistani telecom infrastructure industry during the conference.
