Islamabad agreed to import one crude oil cargo from Russia

After agreeing to import one cargo initially as a test case to close the “trust deficit,” Pakistan is anticipating receiving its first oil shipment from Russia by the end of April.

Islamabad has already been offered 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day by Moscow.

If both countries sign a deal, Russia will overtake Saudi Arabia, which exports roughly 100,000 barrels of crude oil daily, to become Pakistan’s second-largest crude oil supplier.

Russian officials reportedly cast doubt on Pakistan’s commitment to a mature oil deal. Therefore, Moscow had requested that Islamabad import “one oil cargo” as a test case during a recent meeting between the two nations.

According to the sources, Russia agreed to export blended oil to Pakistan because it had heavy crude oil but Pakistan lacked the technology to refine it.

To show its confidence in the oil deal, Moscow demanded that Islamabad import “one crude oil cargo” first.
According to sources, Islamabad agreed to import “one crude oil cargo” by the end of April this year in response to a request from Russia, opening the door for a larger agreement.
