Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced severe austerity measures on Wednesday as Pakistan moved to reduce spending in the face of dire economic circumstances.
He announced that none of the ministers, special assistants, or advisers will receive pay or benefits during a press conference with other members of the cabinet.
He stated that they would pay their utility bills out of “their own pockets”.
“All luxury vehicles driven by Cabinet members will be put up for auction, and only one vehicle will be provided when security is needed,” he said. Additionally, they will take local and international flights in economy class.
A government delegation travelling abroad will have fewer people with them and won’t be permitted to stay in 5-star hotels.
