Brook and Gardner named as ICC Player of Month for December

The 23-year-old was instrumental in England’s three-match Test series thrashing of Pakistan. Brook scored 468 runs in three matches and had an astounding strike rate of 93.41 percent.

The ICC has named England’s star middle-order batter Harry Brook Men’s Player of the Month for December 2022 for his recent performances against Pakistan.

Brook competed for the award alongside Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Australia’s Tavis Head, and managed to edge out the two top-tier batters.

The batter was instrumental in England’s three-match Test series thrashing of Pakistan. With 468 runs in three matches, the youngster finished the tour as the highest run-scorer.

Brook proved to be the ideal replacement for the “BazBall” strategy in Jonny Bairstow’s absence, slid into the middle of the order with ease. Brook’s runs were scored at an astounding strike rate of 93.41 percent.

In Rawalpindi’s opening match of the series, the 23-year-old, who was playing in just his second Test, scored 153 and 87 runs. His first-inning century came off only 116 balls as he dismantled Pakistan’s bowling attack to set the tone for the rest of the series.

He continued to score 100 points in the final two Tests, helping England win their first Test game on Pakistani soil in 17 years.

Brook was named Player of the Series after his outstanding performance.

Meanwhile, Ashleigh Gardner of Australia has been named Women’s Player of the Month to cap off an outstanding year.

After defeating Suzie Bates of New Zealand and Charlie Dean of England in a stellar individual series against India last month, Gardner was given the monthly award.
