Wasim Akram, the former captain of Pakistan, has backed Gautam Gambhir for the coaching role in the Indian cricket team, lauding his intellect and straightforward demeanor.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively scouting for a replacement for Rahul Dravid post the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

They’ve approached various candidates like Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and Justin Langer, with Gambhir being considered lately, although he hasn’t responded yet.

Akram, who led Pakistan in the 1999 and 2003 World Cups, commended Gambhir’s no-nonsense approach and clear communication style, endorsing BCCI’s interest in him as Dravid’s successor.

Gambhir, who’s presently mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, steered KKR to victory as captain in 2012 and 2014, a feat yet unmatched by the franchise.
