Renowned singers Aima Baig and Trishala Gurung are set to grace the inaugural ceremony of the Asia Cup 2023 in Multan on Wednesday. The curtain-raiser will precede the opening match of the tournament, pitting hosts Pakistan against Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Scheduled to unfold between August 30 and September 17, the 2023 Asia Cup will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

However, the entire tournament will not unfold in Pakistan, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to send its team to Pakistan, citing security apprehensions. Pakistan finds itself placed in Group A alongside Nepal and arch-rivals India. Conversely, Group B comprises Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

While a quartet of matches is earmarked for Pakistan, the remaining nine, including the climactic final, are designated for Sri Lanka. Unlike the alternating T20 and ODI formats since 2016, the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup will adopt a 50-over format. This adjustment aims to furnish participating teams with optimal preparation for the impending World Cup, slated to unfold in India later this year.

In the 50-over format, India enters the fray as the defending champions of the Asia Cup, having clinched the title in the previous edition held back in 2018. With captivating performances promised by the likes of Aima Baig and Trishala Gurung, the Asia Cup 2023’s opening ceremony is primed to be a memorable spectacle.
