“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been full of monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and swords for Season 4,” says Henry Cavill while confirming he will not be part of the Witcher project after season 03.

According to the details, The Witcher will officially return for a fourth season on Netflix, but with a new Geralt of Rivia, as Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill after Season 3. Netflix announced the news, along with statements from Cavill and Hemsworth.

“In my place, the magnificent Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf. As with the best literary characters, I pass the torch with gratitude for the time spent as Geralt and excitement to witness Liam’s interpretation of this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, excellent fellow, this character has so much depth to him; enjoy delving in and seeing what you can find.”

“As a Witcher fan, I’m overjoyed at the prospect of playing Geralt of Rivia.” “Hemsworth explained. “Henry Cavill has been a fantastic Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handed me the reigns and asked me to pick up the White Wolf’s swords for the next chapter of his story. I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you did with this cherished character. I may have large shoes to fill, but I’m really happy to be entering The Witcher world.”

This follows the similarly shocking announcement that Cavill would reprise his role as Superman in the DCEU. There is no news on whether these two choices were related, although the timing of the statements suggests so.

Liam Hemsworth is the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and has appeared in films such as The Hunger Games as Gale Hawthorne and Independence Day: Resurgence as Jake Morrison.
