BEIJING: Xi Jinping was chosen as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China‘s (CPC) 20th Central Committee at the committee’s first plenary session on Sunday, according to a communiqué.
The session was presided over by Xi Jinping, and it was attended by 203 members of the 20th CPC Central Committee and 168 alternate members.
During the session, Xi was also named chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission.
At the session, Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi were elected to the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Members of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau were also elected at the session, which endorsed the members of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat nominated by the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau.
The members of the Central Military Commission were elected at the plenary session. The session authorized the secretary, deputy secretaries, and members of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) Standing Committee chosen at the 20th CCDI’s first plenary session.
Members of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau include Ding Xuexiang, Xi Jinping, Ma Xingrui, Wang Yi, Wang Huning, Yin Li, Shi Taifeng, Liu Guozhong, Li Xi, Li Qiang, Li Ganjie, Li Shulei, Li Hongzhong, He Weidong, He Lifeng, Zhang Youxia, Zhang Guoqing, Chen Wenqing, Chen Jining.
The Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee is made up of Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi.

President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Xi Jinping on his re-election to the Communist Party of China (CPC) for a third term on Sunday.
On his Twitter account, the president expressed his heartfelt congratulations to President Xi Jinping on his re-election as CPC General Secretary, as well as his best wishes for his health and happiness.

The prime minister went on to say that it was a beautiful testament to President Xi’s astute management and unshakable dedication to serving the Chinese people.
