ECP to bring international observers for fair polls

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take steps to bring international observers to Pakistan to observe the elections.

A meeting of the Election Commission was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Members of the Election Commission, the Secretary of the Election Commission, and senior officers participated in the meeting.

According to the Election Commission, the Commission wants to invite international observers under Section 238 of the Election Act, 2017. The Election Commission believes in the participation of international observers for the transparency of elections.

The Foreign Office is to provide a list of organizations of foreign observers to the Election Commission.

On the other hand, the Secretary of the Election Commission has also called a meeting regarding the participation of foreign observers in the next few days.

It was decided in the meeting that an inter-ministerial meeting would be called on October 16 under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Election Commission. Senior officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and other institutions will participate in the meeting.

According to the Election Commission, the future course of action regarding international observers will be decided in the meeting.
