Samsung has started rolling out the first One UI 9 beta update to the Galaxy S25 series, expanding a beta program that had previously been limited to the newer Galaxy S26 lineup, according to Android Authority and SamMobile.
Android 17 Comes to the S25 Lineup
The beta brings Android 17 to the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Galaxy S25 FE, marking the second major Android upgrade for the standard S25 models and the first for the FE variant. The Galaxy S25 Edge has not been included in this initial beta wave.
The update carries the August 5, 2026 security patch and is a sizable download, coming in at roughly 3.86 gigabytes depending on the specific device, according to Ubergizmo.
Limited Regions for Now
The beta is currently live in South Korea, the United Kingdom, and India. Based on Samsung’s rollout pattern with the Galaxy S26 series, additional regions including the United States, Germany, and Poland are expected to follow, though Samsung has not confirmed a timeline for those markets.
Users who want early access can sign up through the Samsung Members app and check for the update under Settings and Software update once enrolled.
New Features in One UI 9
One UI 9 includes a Galaxy AI feature for Now Brief called Pay Now, along with a more flexible Quick Panel, upgrades to Samsung DeX, and new tools inside Samsung Notes, according to SammyFans. The update also adds a privacy indicator that shows when an app is using the device’s location.
Samsung introduced the broader One UI 9 experience at its July 22 Unpacked event, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra shipping with it out of the box. The stable rollout for the wider lineup, including the S25 series, is expected to follow in the coming weeks based on Samsung’s release pattern in prior years, when the S25 series received its Android 16 update in mid-September.
What It Means for Users
Beta software carries risks, and users who install it should expect possible bugs, battery drain, or occasional stability issues before Samsung finalizes the stable release. Those who prefer a fully tested experience may want to wait for the general rollout rather than opting into the beta program early.
The expansion also signals that Samsung’s broader Android 17 push is progressing on schedule, following the pattern set with last year’s Android 16 rollout, which reached the S25 series before extending to older devices like the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 within the same month.
