PM Shehbaz Sharif opened two coal-fired power stations

The two 1,650 megawatt coal-fired power stations were officially opened on Wednesday by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Tharparkar, Sindh. He said that the projects would “transform the desert into an economic powerhouse.”

The projects, which include the 1,320 MW Shanghai Electric power plant and the 330 MW Thal Nova power plant, will generate 11.24 billion units of low-cost electricity per year.

The production of coal-based power in Thar will rise by up to 3,300 MW thanks to a direct investment of $3.53 billion into these projects.

The prime minister stated, speaking at the opening ceremony in the Thar region’s Islamkot, “it was a moment of celebration for the entire country because the Tharparkar desert was acquiring a source of essential facilities for life.
