The iconic Addams Family has featured in a variety of media, from a comic strip to a 1960s sitcom to a Tony-nominated musical. The ghoulish clan will be brought to life this autumn in Netflix’s new spinoff series “Wednesday,” and the official teaser video has been released.

The sitcom, created by Tim Burton, stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, the deranged adolescent daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams. Wednesday enters Nevermore Academy in the spinoff, where she tries to harness her new psychic skills and solve a murder mystery tied to her family’s past.

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday’s brother Pugsley round out the Addams Family. Thing, the disembodied hand servant, is played by Victor Dorobantu, while Lurch is played by George Burcea.

Other cast members include Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, and Riki Lindhome. Christina Ricci, who portrayed the famous character of Wednesday in the 1990s film series, will return as Marilyn Thornhill in a cameo.

 

The series co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers are Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Tim Burton executive produces and directs four of the eight episodes, with additional directors Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall. Executive producers include Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, and Gail Berman. MGM Television produces “Wednesday” on Netflix.

“I had no idea I’d be walking into a nightmare,” Ortega says in the teaser. “Packed with mystery, mayhem, and murder.” “I think I’ll enjoy being here.”
