Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Ijaz Butt, passed away in Lahore on Thursday at the age of 85. He had been unwell for a long period, according to his son-in-law Arif Saeed. Ijaz Butt served as the PCB chairman from 2008 to 2011, a tenure marked by several changes in team management.

The PCB expressed its sadness over the news of Ijaz Butt’s passing in a brief statement on their official Twitter account, offering heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Ijaz Butt was a wicketkeeper-batter during his playing days and made his Test debut against West Indies in 1958-59 as an opener, scoring 41 not out in a 10-wicket victory. He also played twice against Australia and scored his only half-century at Karachi in December 1959.

Throughout his Test career, Ijaz Butt scored a total of 279 runs in eight matches at an average of 19.92. He also had a successful first-class career, featuring in 67 matches and amassing over 3,000 runs.

Ijaz Butt’s time as PCB chairman was eventful, witnessing various changes and decisions during his leadership. His contributions to both Pakistan cricket and administration will be remembered, and the cricketing community mourns his passing.
