Left-arm fast-bowler Wahab Riaz has announced his retirement from international cricket. He revealed his decision on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), his family, coaches, teammates, fans, and supporters.

In his retirement statement, Wahab, who is also a sports adviser for the Punjab caretaker government, mentioned that he is excited about upcoming opportunities in franchise cricket.

According to sources, Wahab has had an extensive international career, playing 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is for Pakistan. He last represented the national team in 2020.

Wahab achieved notable statistics during his international career, taking 83 wickets in Tests with an average of 34.50, 120 wickets in ODIs with an average of 34.30, and 34 wickets in T20Is at an average of 28.55. He was most recently associated with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League 2023.

In a press statement, Wahab mentioned his retirement plans and expressed contentment with his contributions to the national team. He conveyed his sense of honor and privilege in representing Pakistan at the international level.

At a subsequent press conference in Lahore, Wahab discussed the possibility of becoming a future coach, stating that while the decision rests with the PCB, he would be enthusiastic about coaching younger players. He emphasized that his retirement was based on practical considerations, acknowledging the skills of Pakistan’s current bowlers and emphasizing his desire to pass on his experience to emerging talents.
